The Interpretation Centre of the Alpujarra is an initiative to provide to Ugíjar with equipment capable of strengthening the historic and cultural identity of a region characterized by great diversity and complexity. This project, of historic, cultural and tourist interest, not only aims to function as an economic boost for the place where it is located and to which it refers, but it mainly aims to present the broad and diverse heritage of the Alpujarra to both the visitor and the competent public institutions, so that they become aware of the need to preserve and value its wealth.

This Interpretation Centre seeks to encompass the knowledge of the different areas of the Alpujarras through a holistic approach, avoiding a perspective based on a single discipline.

This broad view of the Alpujarra region, as a region full of features does not reject the collaboration and cooperation of other cultural organizations of the area, for the creation of a working network, which main goal would be to present its history and culture.

Such an inclusive project, is not only a way to ensure the local development and the possibility of cooperating with other similar or complementary services that are in other villages, but, as a whole, it means a comprehensive revitalization and the recognition of the reality of the Alpujarra as a whole.

 

LANGUAGES

All project-related texts are presented in Spanish and English. In addition, there are documents in the room for French and German speakers.

Vision of species and typical products with a museum resource that allows us to appreciate their smells.

Interactive Resource Sounds of the Alpujarra

Space reserved for the sense of hearing. Reproduction of sounds representative of the Alpujarra can be appreciated. These are linked to animals, skiers, songs, religious pilgrimages and parties. To play them, sound bells are used, allowing a selective and concentrated diffusion.

In this room, part of the historic record of Ugíjar is exposed.

Documentation centre

It is a documentary information centre, which will be located in the Patrimony of the Historic Archive of Ugíjar that is not in the exhibition.

It is a unit of specialized information. Besides being used to store and preserve, its purpose is to serve as a reference and help to professionals and researchers who wish to consult any of the existing files.

Miniature of the Alpujarra

Physical topographic miniature with 221 points of light, that represent the towns that make up the region of the Alpujarra, divided between the provinces of Granada and Almería.

The unique physical framework in which the Alpujarra is located is represented. One can see this steep region of deep valleys and ravines, which stretches from the southern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range to the mountain ranges of Lújar, Contraviesa and Gádor, reaching the Mediterranean Sea.

Scale reproduction of a typical architectural construction from the Alpujarra. It is sectioned and the different constructional elements are shown in detail.
